Celebrate the esteemed 2024 ACFF La Coupe Lumière Recipient!

The 12th edition of the Au Contraire Film Festival celebrates presenting
the 6th annual La Coupe Lumiere to the ECHO Foundation.

La Coupe Lumière, is an annual award of appreciation from the hundreds of organizations within the Montreal mental health continuum. It recognizes the valuable contribution made by an individual or organisation to ultimately alleviate the suffering of those that live with mental health challenges, through programs, policies, facilities, and innovation.

La Coupe Lumière, made of lacquered film strips and crafted by internationally known Quebecker Colin Schleeh, is an annual award of appreciation from the hundreds of organizations within the Montreal mental health continuum. It recognizes the valuable contribution made by an individual to ultimately alleviate the suffering of those that live with mental illness, through programs, policies, facilities and innovation.

2024 La Coupe Lumière Recipient

This year, we are delighted to announce that the recipient of the esteemed Coupe Lumière award is the  Echo Foundation represented by its Executive Director, Mr. Kevin Leonard. This marks the first time a foundation has been bestowed with this honor.

For over two decades, The ECHO Foundation has been dedicated to grant-giving, supporting organizations offering frontline services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals grappling with serious and persistent health issues. These initiatives include drop-in centers, residential facilities, reinsertion programs, family support services, and pilot projects aimed at enhancing care and services for vulnerable individuals facing mental health challenges.

Dr. Amal Abdel-Baki

2023 Winner
Psychiatrist and the Head of Youth Mental Health Services at CHUM
Dr Amal Abdel-Baki is a Psychiatrist and the Head of Youth Mental Health Services at CHUM, as well as a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Montreal. Dr Abdel-Baki has also co-founded three associations, including the Association of Programs for First Psychotic Episodes (AQPPEP), to support the development of early intervention programs.

Karen Hetherington

2022 Winner
President & GD of Option Milieu

President and General Director of Option Milieu, offering bilingual training and program development in community mental health for over 26 years. Former President of the Canadian Mental Health Association (Quebec Division). Lectured at Université de Montréal and McGill University, specializing in mental health, community practice, and social policy.

Dr. Laurence J. Kirmayer

2021 Winner
MD, FRCPC, FCAHS
Laurence J. Kirmayer, MD, FRCPC, FCAHS, FRSC is James McGill Professor and Director, Division of Social and Transcultural Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University and Co-director of the Culture, Mind and Brain Program, McGill University. He is Editor-in-Chief of Transcultural Psychiatry, and Director of the Culture & Mental Health Research Unit at the Institute of Community and Family Psychiatry, Jewish General Hospital.

Dr Karl Looper

2020 Winner
Psychiatrist-in-Chief of the JGH & Associate Professor of Psychiatry at McGill University
Dr. Karl Looper is Psychiatrist-in-Chief of the Jewish General Hospital and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at McGill University. He has served as the Program Director for the Psychiatry Residency Program of McGill University and has led the Department of Psychiatry of the Jewish General Hospital since 2014. His main research interests are in psychosomatic medicine and mental health service development.

Dr. André Delorme

2019 Winner
Psychiatrist
Dr. André Delorme, an eminent psychiatrist, has left an indelible mark on mental health in Quebec. With extensive experience, he practiced as a clinician at the Sherbrooke University Hospital Center and led mental health initiatives at the Ministry of Health, thus contributing to promoting exemplary policies and practices.
